Looking Back

New photography became even more difficult this week. Health issues. Limited mobility. But here are four other June days from the archives, in lieu of new photography, for now.

Smoke in the Air
The massive brush fires in the San Gabriel Valley filled the Los Angeles harbor with smoke. The Korean Peace Bell and the Point Fermin lighthouse, Tuesday, June 21, 2016

The City in Heat
Summer in the city – an early heat wave lights up Los Angeles City Hall and the Los Angeles Times building, and much more. The city is in heat. ~ Friday, June 16, 2017

Pour on the Color: Los Angeles is drab. Street art fixes that. Pour on the color. ~ Wednesday, June 20, 2018

Coastal Fog: Malibu, Pacific Coast Highway at Big Rock Canyon, early afternoon, the coastal fog finally lifting, for an hour or two. It will be back soon enough. This is June in Southern California. It’s wonderful too. ~ Tuesday, June 11, 2019

Just the Sky: This is not good. The weather app on the iPhone said “Unhealthy Air Quality for Sensitive Groups” – one step below “Unhealthy Air Quality for All Residents” – one step below “We’re All Gonna Die!” Breathing was difficult. It was a good day to stay home. But the crap in the air did make the sky oddly magnificent. ~ Wednesday, June 24, 2020

About Alan

The editor is a former systems manager for a large California-based HMO, and a former senior systems manager for Northrop, Hughes-Raytheon, Computer Sciences Corporation, Perot Systems and other such organizations. One position was managing the financial and payroll systems for a large hospital chain. And somewhere in there was a two-year stint in Canada running the systems shop at a General Motors locomotive factory - in London, Ontario. That explains Canadian matters scattered through these pages. Otherwise, think large-scale HR, payroll, financial and manufacturing systems. A résumé is available if you wish. The editor has a graduate degree in Eighteenth-Century British Literature from Duke University where he was a National Woodrow Wilson Fellow, and taught English and music in upstate New York in the seventies, and then in the early eighties moved to California and left teaching. The editor currently resides in Hollywood California, a block north of the Sunset Strip.
