Just Above Sunset

Vacation

July 28, 2007 · No Comments

About to hop on a non-stop flight, LAX to Logan, then pick up the tiny rental car and drive out to the north end of Cape Cod, so commentary here will be suspended for a bit – unless it rains in North Wellfleet and the whole crew from college days is bored, or napping.  If so, I’ll pull out the laptop and post something – maybe.  The return here to Hollywood is scheduled for late Friday night.  Commentary resumes next Saturday.

What can I say?  “Loafing needs no explanation and is its own excuse.” ~ Christopher Morley

In the meanwhile, bop over to the sister site – devoted to photography.  There are fifteen pages of amusing shots there.

Last weekend it was the Call to the Wall Surf Festival on Saturday, July 21, 2007 – Surfrider Beach, Malibu – The Surfing Life, with six additional pages of detail – The Boards, The Surfers, On the Beach, Surf Culture, Statements, and Waves of Nostalgia (our Bob Patterson explains it all).

Since then there is that new page on the neighbors who are filming a documentary about Elvis.  This is Hollywood.  See Elvis Right Here!  There’s even a pink Cadillac.  Or you could check out the “Woodie” and a “Hot Rod Lincoln” at California Rides.

If you’re into Hollywood, you will find that while Paris has Notre Dame, looking down on everything from the center of everything, we have an old bank, but it is Hollywood Gothic.  Or just check out the odd tigers on the boulevard in Disquieting Hollywood.

You want some street art?  Check out to somewhat famous La Luz de Jesus, or the amazing Hector Ponce mural of Jaime Escalante and Edward James Olmos at Wilshire and Alvarado, at Local Heroes – or just admire the Painted Women down on Melrose.

Fans of the botanical studies get a few Simple Blooms.

Back soon.  Be good.
