Just Above Sunset

California Surfing

July 22, 2007 · No Comments

There is no Sunday night column.  The day was given over to posting seven nested pages of real California stuff at the sister site – high-resolution photographs from the Call to the Wall Surf Festival on Saturday, July 21, 2007 – Surfrider Beach, Malibu.  It doesn’t get much more California than that.  The event Saturday was a bit of a bust - the waves were tiny and the surfers beyond grumpy, as you would expect.  But as this is the very beach where they filmed the first Gidget movie, and later each of the Frankie Avalon films of that ilk, it was pretty cool.  And it was so California.
